The European Construction Industry #StrongerTogether
"The construction industry is one of the largest players in our economy. It employs around 7% of all the workforce and builds the basis of a sustainable and competitive society" declares Thomas Bauer, the president of FIEC in the last FIEC annual report and he continues: "Construction plays a key role in increasing our quality of life, in ensuring the success of our economies, as well as our culture and wellbeing, our mobility and for sustainable development in general".
For Mr Bauer, one of the main objectives of FIEC is precisely "to facilitate all necessary political and economic initiatives to enable the construction industry with all its workforce to play this important role in the best possible manner".
In 2019, the construction sector operated 6.1% of EU27 total employment and 27.4% of industrial employment. The industry is made from 3 million enterprises (95% are SMEs with fewer than 20 and 93% with fewer than 10 operatives).

Through its 32 national member federations in 28 European countries (25 EU & Norway, Ukraine and Turkey), FIEC represents, without discrimination, construction enterprises of all sizes, from all building and civil engineering specialities, engaged in all kinds of working methods.
