2021 was a year of great expectation for T&E
Suppose the EU wants to deliver on the climate commitments made with the Paris Agreement. In that case, Europe needs smarter, more ambitious transport policies. Transport is the only primary sector in which emissions have grown since 1990, driving an increase in the EU's overall emissions in 2017.
The European association "Transport & Environment" (T&E) advocates for the lowest levels of greenhouse gas emissions and air and noise pollution from transport; zero-emission vehicles, planes and ships; and pricing that makes polluters pay for pollution, not society as a whole.
T&E vision is a zero-emission mobility system that is affordable and has minimal impacts on our health, climate and environment.
Every year T&E gives an overview of the critical developments in clean transport and the role the organisation played in shaping the debate.
2021 was a year of great expectation. It was a year of lofty climate goals in Europe. European policymakers were more ambitious than ever, from the EU's landmark climate Fit for 55 package to Germany's first green government and to the COP Summit in Glasgow.
2021 was a landmark year for Europe and a landmark year for T&E. T&E's reach is growing. There is ever more responsibility on the organisation to push policymakers toward a path to zero. A green transport future is possible. 2022 will be about turning a year of great expectation into reality.
